Space Derby

The boys turned 8 on Sunday and the very next Wednesday was their very first Cub Scout Pack Meeting! Only, this pack meeting wasn't an ordinary meeting, it was a SPACE DERBY!

I saw it mentioned in our ward bulletin and contacted the Cub Committee Chair to see if I could get kits for the boys.  They set to work on their rockets.  I read online that it was easiest if the boys used potato peelers to carve....it sure was easy.  We used plain old Elmer's Glue (thanks to Brock's science project last year that proved it was the strongest!) and the boys carved their rockets themselves!  After the glue set up, they painted a few coats and decorated! It was relatively painless, only taking about 2 hours for both rockets from start to finish and boy, oh boy, were they pleased with the results!  They could hardly wait for the Space Derby!

However, disaster was looming!  At our next baseball game, I was talking to one of the moms about it and we realized that Pack Meeting was at the EXACT same time as their baseball game! Oh dear! The other moms hadn't even started their rockets, so they were just going to ignore it, but my poor boys were DONE! Plus, even if I let them pick which they wanted to do, what would I do if they picked different things? Who would I watch? Cole was the coach! Aah!

Thankfully, they were able to push the derby back an hour and the boys were able to play their baseball game and then "fly" to the derby!  I am so thankful we were able to make it! It was such an awesome night!
Brandon and his "Braves" rocket! He was sure proud of that puppy!

Brock and his "BROCKET!" He picked cub scout colors for his!

Brandon was in the first race! He was pretty nervous, but really had no idea what to expect!  We had read a few things online, but some of the other parents were INTENSE! Haha! We didn't stand a chance against some of them!

He didn't know that though...he was beyond thrilled to watch that baby fly!

He even won!

Brandon and his heat-winning rocket!

Next up was Brock! At this point they had seen the rockets go and were super excited!

Brock's won his heat, too!

We were so lucky to have both grandparents and Ladd and Kris there to watch! Our

Brock showing off his heat-winning rocket!

Our elation over the first two heats ended abruptly when Brock and Brandon had to go against each other in their 2nd heats! RUDE!!!! Lol!

Getting their rockets ready! (You see how all 3 of those boys have their baseball pants on still?! We barely made it and decided to just throw on their shirts!)

Kaitlin and Kenzie cheering on the boys!

Oh how my heart was in my chest at this point! I knew one of them would lose! I sure hoped they would handle it okay
How cute is this picture?! They were so surprised they had to race against each other!

They were pretty close, but Brock's ended up winning!

I don't know what I was worried about though...Brandon was a great sport and Brock quickly ran up to him and gave him 5. Love those two!

Look at it go!

Good ol' Brock trying to peak at the results!

Alli and her friend, Ashlyn, playing DS!

Waiting to hear the results!
Yummy treats! They asked us to bring something and this is what the boys and I whipped up!

Happy Boys! Great night! I was so proud of them for being such great sports and for doing the work on their rockets! They had an awesome experience for their first time at Cub Scouts!

8 Year old pre-baptism pics

It is so hard to believe that the boys are actually 8 already!  With Kaitlin, is was so anticipated and such a huge step..and although it is still a huge step with the boys, so many other things have been going on that it has sort of blended in!  One thing that has been completely pushed aside is their 8 year old photo shoot!  Tonight we finally got their new suits on (which they aren't allowed to actually wear until their baptism day!) and we headed over to the temple!  It took about 15 minutes and then my silly camera died!  I was amazed how fun these pics turned out though! They are sure growing up!

I have no idea why I didn't notice that my editing program was watermarking these sooner.  By the time I did notice it, there was no way I was going back through to re-edit each of them! Darn it! Just try to ignore the annoying name in the bottom corner! Haha!

I think this is my favorite of Brock, but I need to do another version in color without the effects.  It looked good, too!

Lead me, guide me...walk beside me!

I really like this pose of Brandon.  He picked it and you could just tell he was comfortable.

Mr. Cas!

This one has my heart!

This is my favorite of Brandon!

I think this is my favorite! I always love this pose of the two of them! Such sweeties!

This one's cute, too!
